Chain Home was Britain’s first operational radar network. Stations were built in secret between 1935 and 1939, running from Orkney to the Isle of Wight, credited as decisive in the Battle of Britain. This brick lookout block was built on Ventnor Down to endure. Sitting in open landscape, indifferent to the towers that once stood beside it. Most maps have never shown it.
From the Forgotten History series, an ongoing body of work examining the Isle of Wight’s sites of historical significance, absorbed back into ordinary life without ceremony or preservation.
